Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery
The Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery is an operation to create a much smaller “sleeve” like stomach and restricts the amount of food or liquid you can eat or drink at one time. You can expect your stomach to decrease in size by about 85-90%. This results in a much smaller stomach, therefore, you eat fewer calories during meals, causing weight loss. This procedure also has an impact on the gut hormones that affect satiety, blood glucose, and hunger. This procedure is as effective as the gastric bypass with regards to weight loss and control of Type 2 diabetes.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band Surgery(NO LONGER OFFERED)
The Adjustable Silicone Gastric Band for obesity is a device designed to create a very small “pouch” at the upper end of your stomach. It limits the amount of food or liquid you can eat or drink at one time, functioning as an intake valve restricting the size of your meal.
The Band is constructed with an expandable chamber on its inner diameter, connected through a tube to a portal buried under the skin of the abdomen. This provides the capability of adjusting the inner diameter, and the resultant size of the outlet of the stomach pouch. Adjustments may be performed at any time and are usually performed more frequently within the first few months following surgery. Some patients never require adjustments! REMEMBER, every patient is different in how they react to the band, and how much restriction they have at different times after band surgery.
You must commit yourself to routine medical check-ups after surgery as part of your commitment to good health. Return visits to be evaluated for adjustments become a part of your life following this surgery. X-ray and endoscopic evaluation may be warranted at specific intervals following this operation.
